Leaving Hawi behind and heading east.
We soon arrived at the town of Kapaau. This is the birthplace of King Kamehameha.
The King Kamehameha statue in Honolulu is the second one, with the original here.
It was created and during transport to Hawaii by ship, the vessel sank. The statue in Honolulu was created as a replacement.
Later, it was recovered, but since the replacement statue was already installed in Honolulu, this original was placed in this birthplace town instead.
Along the road near this statue, an old man in a green beret was hitchhiking.
I was too scared to pick him up (laughs)
